Why do I need Face Recognition in Door Access Control System?

While traditional password or smart-card controlled door locks are already widely implemented, there is a major limitation for them: The inability to protect against unauthorized possession of the key (e.g. stolen smart cards, stolen passwords). Biometric security technologies can solve this problem. As a result, it only makes sense for the deployment of door locks that combine the two types of technology for more secure but yet convenient physical access control.

Among many biometric security solutions, face recognition has the distinct advantage of having the ability to provide audit trail on potential intruders. Moreover, due to the fact that face recognition requires no physical contact between the users and the devices, the maintenance on the devices would be the minimal.

How's it work?

The operation flow of ProAccess FaceGuard is straight-forward. First, the user presents his/her smart card in front of the contact-less card reader. The computer will then process and check the status (e.g. an employee, a guest etc.) as well as the authentication method (e.g. smart-card only, smart-card and face, smart-card and face and fingerprint [optional], etc.) of this user. Then, the device will perform an identity verification (unless it is a smart-card only situation) using the face recognition software. Access will be granted if and only if the user is an authorized person. Lastly, the whole authentication process will be logged with video for future reference when the need arises.
